Website Meeting Notes May 4, 2020

21

Good meeting today.  Items that I request your eview and input on the highlighted bold italics items.

We started our website with the blog sarasotamoaa.wordpress.com  This uses the same software that we propose our consultant use for our new website. It is relatively simple and is the most widely used system for current websites.  I have invited you all to become administrators of this site.  This will enable you to learn how to use the software which is free.  The blog is also free. There is a cost when we expand it to a website – it has to be hosted somewhere for a fee. I think we will need a consultant to get the site looking and functioning well – so far I have not figured out how to put the buttons on it or how to post the top photo.

Our RFP is on   https://websitemoaa.blogspot.com/  We have sent the RFP to 27 firms.  Their proposals are due by May 10, 2020.

We will post the bids we receive here      https://bidsmoas.blogspot.com/

will write a short analysis and comparison of the bids and discuss them to select the successful firm to go forward with.

We need to discuss the top buttons on the Website.  I put four different organizations site on this blog. Take a look and let me know which one of the four organizations you prefer.      https://websitemoaaorganization.blogspot.com/

I have put photos that I think would be good for the site on this location. Please take a look and let me know if you concur with those photos, and if you have better photos send them to me.   https://websitephotosmoas.blogspot.com/

6. Proposals are due May 10, 2020.

Background Information

Our current website is attractive but the monthly costs are too high and the site is difficult to update. Our intent is to develop a new website and be able to add and edit as necessary to keep it up to date.

We would prefer that the site be written in WordPress Software so that we can update the site. We will consider alternate software.

We do not require an integrated database although it would be nice to be able to add one if we need one at a future date.

We do not require credit card payment availability although it would be nice to be able to add it if we need to in the future.

We would like a private side where our members can log in to view documents that are not shared with non members.

We have reviewed the recently developed Website for Sarasota Sister Cities and believe a similar design would be workable.

Sarasotasistercities.org

We own our domain and will continue to use it: Sarasotamoaa.com

The consultant will ensure that the current address is used for the new website.

MOAS has a number of social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and several blogs that we would

like to be integrated into the site. Those sites are:

Facebook facebook.com/Sarasotamoaa

LinkedIn   linkedin.com/in/sarasotamoaa

Twitter  twitter.com/Sarasotamoaa

Pinterest pinterest.com/sarasotamoaa

Information to be developed by MOAS and the successful consultant after the consultant is chosen.

The new website should contain the mission statement and content describing the work of the Military Officers

Association of Sarasota and the Sarasota Military Officers Foundation without repeating those in lengthy essays.

It could contain the essential drop-downs on the home page leading to additional drop-downs from this main one

without proliferating again from there. Photos do not have to be revolving, one should be sufficient.

The private site does not need a luncheon reservation link since few members use it.

Drop-Downs for the home page could include:

MOAS Who We Are (our mission)

Social Activities (Luncheons, Gala, Yahoo)

Calendar

Newsletter

Legislative

Resources—- how much information should we provide to keep it relevant

FOUNDATION

Our Work for Veterans and Soldiers (SOT, Veterans Assistance

Our Work in the Community (Scholarships for HS Students and

Veterans, JROTC Support)

DONATIONS (where to send)

Flying With The US Military

Flying Home on a Big C-17

We flew home from the Panama Canal cruise from March Air Reserve Base east of Los Angeles to Pope Field on Fort Bragg, North Carolina, on an Air Force Reserve C-17 on Jan 6, 2020. Nice flight, thank you, Air Force. We were the only passengers.
Our military is getting prepared for the conflict with Iran. The plane was going to continue on with a  load of ammunition.  400 Marines left March just before us, and the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg was busy getting prepared.
Stay safe, ladies and gentleman. Here is hoping it does not develop into a big war. We are tired of continuous conflict in the middle east.
